Cornerstone Community Church began in the summer of 1989 as a group of 15-20 people who had a vision to plant an evangelical church in the Hillcrest area of Clevelands east suburbs. The Hillcrest region is a densely populated collection of middle to upper-middle class suburbs noted for excellent school systems and a strong community atmosphere. As a result, the area attracts many young families. A significant percentage of these young families are disillusioned with their religious upbringing. Pastor Armand Tiffe and the core group of Cornerstone believed that a contemporary style church with a relevant presentation of the Word of God would meet the needs of many in the Hillcrest area. They were correct in their assessment.
The leadership decided to affiliate with the Evangelical Free Church of America and is actively involved in the denomination.
Cornerstone went held its first public worship service in September of 1989 and has grown steadily ever since. Throughout our history there has been an upbeat spiritual energy and excitement about what God has done through this ministry and will continue to do. Our average attendance is now over 350.
Cornerstone began meeting publicly at the Hillcrest YMCA and met there until the spring of 1996. In 1994 we purchased the property where the church is now located. The property already had a church building on it, but it was much too small. Before we moved in, we added the Worship Center and renovated the old section into office and classroom space. In 1999 we added a new wing with four classrooms and quickly filled them. We also outgrew our space in our Worship Center, so in 2006 we added a second worship service on Sunday mornings. The second service also gives people more flexibility in their Sunday morning schedule.
We look forward to what God will do in the coming years!
